Gion Shizuka is a Japanese restaurant located next to the Tatsumi Bridge in the historic area of Shirakawa, Kyoto, where diners can exquisite dishes that go well with the premium sake available. The restaurant offers carefully selected seasonal sake that reflects the 24 solar periods, alongside Japanese dishes created under the supervision of a Michelin-starred chef. Diners can spend a relaxing time enjoying sake and food in an old house in the heart of the ancient capital.

The omakase courses (¥22,000, ¥26,400) include 9 kinds of premium sake paired with Japanese dishes. They have a wide selection of premium sake, which is not available on the market. They use on fish caught that day and have other fresh seafood delivered directly from the port. The course starts from a simple yet elaborate appetizer that perfectly brings out the flavor of the ingredients, followed by a special oden dish in which the broth is changed depending on the ingredients. The main dish is made with wagyu beef and other ingredients cooked to bring out the best flavors. For the final course, a seafood bowl or clay pot rice or noodles is prepared. From dishes that allow diners to simply enjoy the flavor of the ingredients to dishes that are carefully prepared with a variety of items, all pairing well with sake.
