Concept :

Tucked away on a quiet street in Shichijo, Kyoto, Artisan is an intimate teppanyaki restaurant where craftsmanship is at the heart of the dining experience. The name “Artisan” expresses respect not only for the chefs, but also for everyone involved in creating something by hand — from farmers and fishermen to the professionals who craft the tableware.

Chef Yuki Shinohara transforms these carefully selected ingredients through techniques honed at restaurants in Italy, Tokyo and Osaka, elevating each one into a beautifully composed dish. In an unusual approach to teppanyaki, the restaurant offers a multicourse progression of small plates, incorporating creative dishes that go beyond the traditional boundaries of teppan cuisine and weaving them into a carefully considered flow of flavors.

The interior is defined by a serene, minimalist aesthetic, with white dominating. Unnecessary decoration has been deliberately stripped away, leaving an elegant sense of space that comes alive as each dish and piece of tableware is placed before guests. Quiet and sophisticated, it feels like a refined hideaway for adults.

Key Points :

Artisan features 10 counter seats and two private rooms accommodating 4 and 8 guests. Guests can experience the chef’s distinctive approach to teppanyaki, combining his assured techniques, honed at Michelin-starred restaurants in Italy, showcasing distinct Italian culinary sensibility.
At the counter, diners can watch the chef work with exceptional Omi beef, personally selected by the chef after carefully assessing everything from its pedigree to its rearing environment. The open-kitchen setting makes every moment of the cooking part of the experience.

Recommended Dishes :

The Artisan Course (¥13,000), is an unusual 16-course progression of small plates for a teppanyaki restaurant. The experience unfolds as a single culinary story, beginning with Italian-inspired creations such as cappellini and leading to a superb Omi beef steak before concluding with fragrant garlic rice.
Other options include the Anniversary Course (¥15,000/17 dishes), Kobe Beef Premium Course (¥20,000/17 dishes), Luxury Course (¥22,000/13 dishes), and Kobe Beef Premium Course (¥27,500/13 dishes). The Lunch Course (¥5,500) is limited to three groups, and is also available on weekdays.
