Concept :

It’s extremely rare these days to come across a restaurant in Tokyo that does not claim to base its menu on the very best seasonal ingredients available. The danger with this approach is that the phrase ceases to carry much weight after a while and customers are as likely to be impressed upon hearing it as they are, say, with the phrase “fusion.” On the other hand, there are definitely times when the phrase is appropriate and thus, please note, we have no hesitation using it insofar as Shunju Tsugihagi is concerned. Located near the Imperial Palace, Shunju follows in the footsteps of a restaurant dominion stretching back to a popular eatery that first opened in Mishuku, Setagaya, more than 20 years ago. Seasonal ingredients form the bedrock of the menu, with the chefs directly involved in growing and harvesting the produce used in each dish. It’s a small point but one which clearly sets it apart from other restaurants that merely receive baskets of fresh vegetables from local market gardeners. Shunju offers three kinds of dining areas ? a charcoal grill counter, a sushi counter and a bar space ? as well as unique private rooms based on different themes, including Japanese tearooms. Of special note is the Shunju dinner course (6,800-16,800), which can be enjoyed with a wide range of alcohol, including the house sake. It’s a very good place to celebrate any number of occasions.
