Concept :

Bistro Chikara is a “French Bistro in the Napa Valley.” Outside, real olive trees bear fruit and the rows of wine glasses in the front window attest that wine is taken seriously here. The interior of burgundy walls and wooden furniture, accented by vintage French ad posters, give an unpretentious air to the restaurant. A signed magnum from the Frog’s Leap Winery and photos of the owner with vintner friend in California give the customer a feeling of comfort and belonging. The goal of Bistro Chikara is to make guests feel as if they are in Paris in a place where they could eat every day without tiring of the cuisine or the ambiance. The rustic feel grows at night with light provided by candles on every table and low, French radio providing the soundtrack. Bistro Chikara is slow dining with most customers settling in for three to four hours to enjoy their food, wine and company. The chef’s speciality is a Creamy Lobster Bisque for 1,600 yen that is extremely popular with foreigners. The endive and arugula salad with black mission fig and gorgonzola (1,100 yen) is a Californian twist on the traditional French endives and blue cheese. Course menus are available from 3,800 yen and, of course, there is an extensive collection of wines to go with any of the delicious dishes on offer.
