Concept :
On an ambitious mission to introduce quintessential Hong Kong classic dishes in Japan, Hong Kong Wah Kee restaurant has successfully transformed itself into a “one-stop-shop” for the former British colony’s many gourmet delights. Founded by a Hong Kong-born businessman in 2017, the 2-year-old Hong Kong-style diner, commonly known as “Cha chaan teng,” has since been expanded to four locations in Tokyo and one in Osaka.Key Points :
The strength of the restaurant, which is manned by a team of experienced Hong Kong-born chefs, lies in its unique operational network in which each branch, except Osaka’s, specializes in one or two particular classic local dishes.Recommended Dishes :
For example, the Okubo branch, which was opened in 2019, mainly serves dim sum or Hong Kong-style tapas, while the Shibuya branch, which is equipped with a bakery, specializes in Hong Kong-style egg tarts (¥200) and pineapple buns (¥200~560). The Waseda branch, on the other hand, is the place for Hong Kong-style roast duck (¥2,280), soy-sauce-marinated crispy chicken (¥2,280) and honey-glazed barbecue pork (¥2280). With reservations, diners can have a whole or half roast duck delivered from the Waseda branch to one of the other Tokyo branches.- Address:
