Built to coincide with the 1964 Olympics, the restaurant space at the top of the Hotel New Otani began life as a showcase to the world of Japan’s technological prowess. Upon completion, the Hotel New Otani was the tallest building in Japan and sitting atop was the largest revolving restaurant in the world at the time. Now, with THE Sky restaurant, the Hotel New Otani is looking to showcase Japan’s culinary skills to the world. THE Sky offers a totally new concept of dining where guests can choose their own ingredients and expert chefs will prepare it right in front of their eyes any way they like it; saute?ed, roasted, grilled, steamed or simmered in their “stage kitchen” with a variety of seasoning and sauces available. A teppanyaki and sushi counter is available, and you can also enjoy the Chinese and Western cuisine included in their buffet. THE Sky offers a lunch buffet at 5,000 on weekdays, 6,000 on weekends and a dinner buffet for 8,000 on weekdays, 9,000 on weekends. Private rooms are also available for up to four to six people for 10,000 (for two hours). They are designed with panoramic views of Tokyo and the iconic Mount Fuji in mind and although the city and foothills surrounding the mountain have changed dramatically, the noble mountain has remained unchanged and just as beautiful as ever.
